Our first workshop on Lamp Making - Some snippets

At Woodooz Home Decor we had our first ever workshop last month. The workshop was about learning to make lamps out of bottles. Sort of an upcycling craft workshop. You may want to click here to know more about what the workshop was all about.

We wanted to write a little bit about what happened in the workshop just so you get a feel of what you can expect in the next one.

The Venue and the Kit

We did the workshop in Aavishkaar’s Workshop space in alwarpet. We had a very gracious host in Sumitha who helped with the requirements and arrangements before and on the day of the event. We just had to walk in and get our things arranged in place. It was a spacious and convenient venue for us and most certainly we are looking at going back again.

All participants were provided with the basic kit that helps them make a lamp out of a bottle. The tools required to complete the task was also provided at the venue. While we provided a choice of bottles to pick from, some of the participants chose to bring their own bottles too.

Morning session

Not going to delve into what we did during the workshop. What we committed in the workshop event post is all that we did so will skip the redundant details. We had two participants. One enthusiastic boy who was trying to understand his interest in various crafts and an excited lady who came all the way from Neyveli to preserve a champagne bottle that was very personal to her.

One chose the light orange drum share (Jute) and the other chose the red jute conical shade. Both their works turned out just awesome.

Afternoon Session

We had 4 lovely ladies who were there to learn the craft for different reasons. It was indeed great to have an audience who had different objectives for being there and we are pretty sure we were able to cater to almost all of them. They had a good run during the workshop and it was a learning experience for us too as we learned a better way to hold the power drill from them. We were indeed quite enthralled by each of their work and we sincerely hope they had a great time with us too.

The bottle lamps

Each one had sent an image of their creation after they had styled it at their home and it was a joy to see their work come to life. We were certainly happy that we decided do this workshop.

Should we do another one ?

We are still speculating if we should do another workshop in the month of April. While we are taking that call, we thought it will be nice to know if you think we should do one.
